Denton Burrows was born and raised in Manhattan, NY, where he is still based. He received his Bachelors Degree in Fine Art at Lehigh University, under the mentorship of Berrisford Boothe, and he had the universities first-ever solo student show. Denton then went on to The School Of Visual Arts in Manhattan, under the mentorship of the legendary Marshall Arisman and professional artist/advisor Taylor Mckimens, for his Masters in Illustration as Visual Essay. He chose this path, instead of a fine arts masters, to further improve his ability to tell stories and comment on society through his fine art works and murals, while also being able to sustain his career through professional illustration.
Naturally, the ever changing, high energy organism that is New York City has always been an inspiration first and foremost, but current events, technology, sociology, psychology, travel, and a general exploration of new experiences and alternative culture fuel Denton’s work as well. Denton has been to 49 states and almost two-dozen countries. If a subject is intriguing, fun to draw, complicated, and can allow him to speak his mind visually about our times, then he will find a way to make work about it, all while maintaining a cohesive style that is all his own. Denton has embarked upon a life of visual social commentary and this practice is his therapy, his way of dealing with and understanding the world, hopefully therefore enabling him to make people truly understand how complicated and connected the world really is, for better or worse, but that there is knowledge in these intersections; knowledge that can spark positive intellectual debate about how to thoughtfully move forward. The emotion of this overwhelmingly complex connectivity is always apparent in his works, as both Denton and his subjects contemplate their place in it all.
In addition to his own artistic practice, Denton is an artistic entrepreneur and art production specialist. He is extremely passionate about public art and the power it has to change communities for the better. He is the CEO & Co-Founder of an art production company Dripped On Productions, as well as Co – Founder & Director at Dripped On The Road: A Traveling Artist Residency. Denton has created countless murals and is deeply imbedded in the street art scene/culture. Denton won the 2016 National Can Art competition for PBR Beer and had his winning design on 35 million cans and over a dozen tractor – trailer delivery trucks nationwide.
